Marco Pantani in Film

Last Friday marked the tenth anniversary of Marco Pantani’s death. Amidst the various commemorations, one of the interesting things to emerge was a trailer for a new feature length documentary on ‘Il Pirata’. Directed by James Erskine, Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist, looks good as cycling documentaries go:

Seeing this made me think I should take the opportunity to direct people to a slightly less polished tribute. Il Pirata: Marco Pantani, is a 2007 telemovie from Italy we enjoyed watching last year. It’s a hugely schmaltzy panegyric, but touching in the end nevertheless. You can find it with English subs at cycling torrents. Check out this extend trailer:

A film from the 2000s, about a cyclist from the 90s, with a guitar solo from the 1980s. Awesome.
